Deborah Tannen (b. 1945)
Deborah Tannen (b. 1945) is a linguist at Georgetown University. She specializes, as she says, in "the language of everyday conversation." Her book You Just Don't Understand (1990) talks about the various conversational styles of men and women in the United States, and compares and contrasts the behaviors and bonds that result from gender-related styles of talking.
