Jack Hitt (b. 1957)

Jack Hitt (b. 1957) grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1979. His articles and essays appear frequently in such magazines as Rolling Stone, Wired, and Outside. As a contributing editor to the New York Times, Harper's, and This American Life, Hitt has covered everything from undergraduate drinking and presidential politics to Internet spam and featherless chickens. He is the author, most recently, of Bunch of Amateurs: A Search for the American Character (2012).
