About the Author
John Covach (Ph.D. University of Michigan) is Professor of Music at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music. An active performer and studio musician, he is the co-editor of Understanding Rock; American Rock and the Classical Music Tradition; and Institutions, Traditions, and American Popular Music. His writings on twentieth-century and popular music and the philosophy of music have appeared in numerous books and journals.
