A new-fashioned synthesis of the fields of learning and memory
Learning & Memory achieves a new integration by drawing on animal learning, human memory, and neuroscience throughout the text, and organizing the text around multiple memory systems.
Applications Make the Material Relevant
Stories, examples, and human neuropsychology patient studies can be found throughout, making the material more relevant for students. Each chapter opens with a compelling vignette that clearly demonstrates how the main forms of learning and memory discussed in each chapter are relevant to everyday life. Finally, human neuropsychology examples illuminate how we know what we know about the various memory systems and how our capacities for learning and remembering are affected when these systems are damaged.
A Science-Oriented Art Program
Nearly 175 scientific drawings and photos appear throughout the text. Each drawing is carefully designed to create a visual representation of the many complex systems and processes. Brain scans are also included so that students can see which areas of the brain are involved in the various learning and memory systems.
Pedagogical Features Reinforce Core Principles
Fundamental Questions in each chapter introduction highlight the major concepts students should focus on while reading the chapter. Subject heads in the form of declarative statements describe the principle, scientific process, or system covered in a given section of each chapter. Interim Summaries at the end of each chapter's major sections reinforce the core concepts. Chapter Summaries revisit all the key concepts covered in the chapter. Finally, Reviewing the Concepts study questions encourage students to think critically about the chapter's most important ideas.
Media Support for Instructors
All adopters have access to PowerPoint slides using all the drawn art in the text, as well as a test bank.
