Meet the Authors

Martin E. P. Seligman is Kogod Term Professor of Psychology, director of clinical training at the University of Pennsylvania, and current president of the American Psychological Association. World-renowned for his theory of depression based on the idea of learned helplessness, his more recent work focuses on learned optimism and health psychology and on developing strategies for preventing depression in children.

David L. Rosenhan is Professor of Psychology and law at Stanford University. Known throughout the world for his work on personality and social processes, particularly for his landmark "pseudopatient" study, Professor Rosenhan is a major proponent of the civil rights of individuals, especially those with mental disorders.
