Meet the Authors
Musician and Teacher combines the talents of three leading experts in music education.
Patricia Shehan Campbell is a specialist in music in early and middle childhood, world music pedagogy, sociology of music, and music and movement. A world-renowned scholar, she has written or co-authored many books on music education including Music in Childhood, Teaching Music Globally, Songs in Their Heads, and Lessons from the World.
Contributing authors Steven M. Demorest and Steven J. Morrison are well known in their respective fields of choral and instrumental music education, and bring their individual expertise to the chapters they contribute to Musician and Teacher. Demorest specializes in choral music education, sight-singing pedagogy, and research in the cognitive neuroscience of music. He is the author of Building Choral Excellence: Teaching Sight-singing in the Choral Rehearsal as well as numerous research articles. Morrison specializes in instrumental music teaching and learning, perception, and neurological responses to music listening. His articles have appeared in a variety of research journals in music education.
All three authors teach at the University of Washington School of Music.
