Variety and flexibility
With over 300 primary sources, with an average of eleven documents per chapter, Perspectives from the Past offers more variety and flexibility than any other Western civilizations reader available.
Balance between traditional documents and modern sources
The Third Edition features a balanced blend of the classic documents that appear most frequently in Western civilizations courses and contemporary documents that reflect more recent trends and issues in European and world history.
Visual sources
To accommodate the growing demand for visual primary sources, the authors have included at least two visual features per chapter. In most cases, the visual source is paired with a document to put the picture in a historical context.
Longer sources
The sources included in the reader are longer (between one and seven pages) to provide students with an in-depth look at the same kinds of materials that historians use in their own research.
