Meet the Authors
Edward L. Ayers is Hugh P. Kelly Professor of History at the University of Virginia. He is the author or editor of a number of books on the history of the South, including The Promise of the New South: Life after Reconstruction.
Anne S. Rubin is Professor of History at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and was project manager of the Valley Project at the University of Virginia.
