Meet the Author
Jonathan D. Spence is Sterling Professor of History at Yale University. The Search for Modern China emerges from Spence’s highly successful course on modern China, one of the most popular at Yale. Professor Spence is the author of many award-winning books on modern China, including The Death of Woman Wang, The Gate of Heavenly Peace, and, from Norton, God’s Chinese Son: The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom of Hong Xiuquan. His newest book is The Chan’s Great Continent: China in Western Minds.
