Geotours
Using Google Earth™, Stephen Marshak has created Geotours that take students on "virtual" geology field trips to better understand chapter lessons. Appearing in the book as large two page spreads, Geotours can be incorporated into engaging lectures that work seamlessly with the book. More than just eye-candy, these cutting-edge features provide longitude and latitude coordinates to help the student navigate through a geologic feature. Each Geotour corresponds with an assignable WorkSheet Activity on StudySpace.
- Download a sample Geotour from the text (PDF).
Geotours are also available as click-and-play features within Google Earth. These online Geotours are optimized for use in lectures. Preview an online Geotour by following these instructions:
- Install the free Google Earth™ software by following this link.
- Download the sample Geotour file (a compressed KMZ file) and uncompress it.
- Double-click the KMZ file to open it in Google Earth.
- Once the file is loaded, double-click on EARTH_3E_SampleTour.kml under the "Places" menu to see a list of available Geotours. Single click on the chapter you would like to view and press play at the bottom of the menu.
- Each Geotour concludes with worksheet exercises. Download sample worksheets as PDFs: chapter 4 and chapter 9.
