James Gindin is Professor of English at the University of Michigan. His publications include Post-War British Fiction; The Harvest of a Quiet Eye: The Novel of Compassion; and The English Climate: An Excursion into the Biography of John Galsworthy. He is currently at work on John Galsworthy’s Life and Art: An Alien’s Fortress.
