Revised Editorial Aids
The "Commentary" section has been substantially revised and updated to reflect advances in textual and interpretive scholarship. An entirely rewritten essay on versification incorporating contemporary metrical scholarship has been included in this edition, as well as an updated bibliography. An indexed glossary specifies all grammatical forms. Where needed, Professor Fulk has made minor corrections and emendations to the texts and notes, based on readings against facsimiles of the manuscripts or surviving manuscripts.
New Recordings
Recordings of the poems now can be freely downloaded from the Norton Online Archive. This URL is also noted in the "Aids to Pronunciation" section. Professor Mary Blockley (University of Texas, Austin), a specialist in Old English linguistics reads The Wife’s Lament; Professor Fulk reads the other seven poems.
