eMedia & Ancillaries for Students
Student Web Site
Developed specifically for Chemistry: The Science in Context by a team of highly-qualified chemistry educators, this student resource offers a thorough review of chapter concepts. Engaging animated tutorials help students visualize dynamic processes; many of these also feature interactive practice exercises that help develop quantitative skills.
Features:
- Overviews summarize the chemical principles introduced in each chapter.
- Tutorials (over 100 of them) animate hard-to-visualize concepts and offer algorithm-based practice exercises with hinting and feedback.
- Animations Quantitative Exercises Structure Tutorial.
- Key Equations and Concepts sections include worked examples and help students to apply what they’ve learned.
- Quizzes offer randomized multiple choice questions with answer feedback.
- Crosswords test recall for new chapter terminology.
Chemistry: The Science in Context Student CD-ROM
Developed specifically for Chemistry: The Science in Context, this comprehensive student resource provides thought-provoking and imaginatively designed activities for review, practice, and assessment. Organized by chapter and thoroughly integrated with the text, the Student CD-ROM runs directly from the user’s CD-ROM drive—no installations, browser upgrades, or plug-in updates required. Whether using it from a computer lab, single-user machine, or even a shared lecture-room laptop, just drop it in and go. The Student CD-ROM is packaged free with every copy of the text.
Student CD-ROM contents are also available on the Student Website at wwnorton.com/chemistry (no password required). Optimized for Netscape Navigator 4.7+ and Internet Explorer 5+. The Web-based version of this resource requires Flash 6 and MDL-Chime plug-ins.
- Review
A concise Overview highlights the chemical principles, equations, and terminology introduced in each chapter. Key Equations and Concepts sections provide detailed explanations, worked examples, and problem-solving advice. Crossword Puzzles test recall for new vocabulary. - Practice
Over 100 tutorials use animations and step-by-step, algorithm-based interactive exercises to demonstrate dynamic processes and to develop quantitative skills. Designed specifically for Chemistry: The Science in Context , the tutorials emphasize key chapter concepts, build conceptual understanding, and strengthen problem-solving skills. All tutorials are also available in the Norton Resource Library, optimized for classroom presentation. - Assessment
Each chapter of the CD-ROM and Website includes a multiple-choice quiz. Questions are presented in randomized order to discourage pattern-matching strategies. Answers are scored immediately, and for each question students receive helpful feedback that explains why their choice is, or is not, correct. Each section concludes with a quantitative quiz, the results of which can be e-mailed to instructors for assessment.

The Study Guide contains an Overview that emphasizes core concepts and learning goals; a hands-on Working with Key Equations and Concepts section that provides patient explanations, practical advice, and worked examples; Vocabulary and Multiple-Choice Self-Tests; and Additional Practice Problems. All contents have been carefully checked for consistency with the text presentation. Value packages available for students.
ChemQuizzesóCD-ROM
Alex Pines, University of California, Berkeley, and David Laws
0-393-10311-0
Based on an innovative peer-interaction technique used in the introductory chemistry course at the University of California, Berkeley, ChemQuizzes is designed to engage students and to get them thinking intuitively about the fundamental concepts of chemistry.
ChemQuizzes provides approximately 100 multiple-choice questions. After choosing an answer, students are given the opportunity to reassess their choice based on plausible explanations for each alternative. Students who choose the wrong answer have one more opportunity to identify the correct response before being presented with the solution and an explanation of the pertinent concepts.
Student Solutions Manual
Edward Witten and Daniel Durfey
0-393-97986-5
Includes full solutions to all odd-numbered quantitative problems, concept test questions, and concept review questions.
