Overview
This version of Organic Reaction Animations provides several much-requested new features including:
- full interactivity—users can now manipulate reactions as they happen by rotating and zooming in and out
- two ways of viewing reactions: small screen for individual use or full screen for projection in the classroom
- optional voiceover narration for use by students exploring the reactions on their own.
This ground-breaking CD-ROM includes 55 short animations of organic reactions based on high-level calculations performed with the aid of the Spartan program from Wavefunction. Each reaction is represented in four ways:
- ball-and-stick model
- space-filling model
- ball-and-stick model with the highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO) superimposed
- ball-and-stick model with the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMO) superimposed.
An information section provides a description of the reaction and its mechanism, and a quiz section features 3 to 5 questions, with answers, to help students interpret what they are seeing in each reaction. An energy diagram illustrates the progress of the reaction as it takes place.
