| Chapter 10: Basics of Psychoanalysis |
Freud is consistently mentioned as one of the four most culturally and scientifically influential people of the twentieth century.
As you study this chapter, and the other psychoanalytic chapters, keep a running list of the psychoanalytic terms and concepts you learn about in this class that you have, at least, heard of before (e.g., "being anal"). You will be amazed that most of the basic psychoanalytic terminology has been fully infused into our natural language. Freud was the first (or among the first) to document several psychological phenomena. Write down all of the ideas, notions Freud invented that you now take for granted (e.g., the idea of going to see a therapist or counselor when you are troubled; the existence of the unconscious mind, and the idea that it can influence your behavior). If you run out of things to write down, visit the Sigmund Freud Archives.
