Speech Recognition

In this chapter you learn that the normal rate of speech is about 180 words per minute, or approximately 14 phonemes per second. Remarkably, these phonemes are usually fired off in a continuous stream, with no gaps or silences to mark boundaries between words. This tutorial demonstrates that defining where one word ends and the next begins is determined by the listener, rather than by the acoustic information itself.
