Treating Psychopathology

The following activity is designed to give you experience exploring the application of psychotherapy in real-world cases.

You should keep in mind that delivering therapy and treatment requires years of training and experience. It is hoped that this exercise will simply help you come to a better understanding of psychopathology and its treatment.

Here is how this activity works:

1.

You should carefully review the two case studies shown on the next few screens.

2.

Review Chapter 17 of your textbook, noting the different types of psychotherapy. You can get additional information from your library and from your campus counseling center.

3.

Consider carefully what your diagnosis would be for these case studies.

4.

Based on your diagnosis and the materials in the chapter, determine what therapy, if any is warranted, you would propose for these cases.

5.

At the end of this activity we will direct you to other information sources that you may use to confirm or disconfirm your plan for therapy.
