Some music theorists prefer to order numbers from 0 to 11, rather than 1 to 12. This allows them to construct an order-number matrix with some of the same properties of an invariance matrix. Such a matrix can predict pc adjacencies that will be held invariant in various forms of the row. For more information, see Robert Morris, Composition with Pitch Classes (New Haven: Yale University Press, 1987).
