Renaissance to Baroque (Read pages 114-115 in your text)
The shift between the Renaissance and Baroque eras saw major advances in the establishment of the modern system of tonality and in the development of modern genres, especially opera. The grandiose style of the Baroque was previewed by large-scale polychoral works by such composers as Giovanni Gabrieli, heard in Venice at the Church of St. Mark's.
