The Austrian composer Joseph Haydn worked under the patronage of the Eszterházy court.
Haydn is remembered for his contributions to the development of Classical instrumental music, especially the symphony and the string quartet.
One of Haydn's best-known symphonies, No. 94, the Surprise, was part of a set of twelve commissioned for a London concert series.
