Anton Webern, a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg, was one of the composers in the Second Viennese School.
Webern's works feature great brevity and use a new pitch system that is played by unusual combinations of instruments in extreme registers.
His use of serialism (twelve-tone technique) was strictly organized, extending beyond melody to rhythm, timbre, and dynamics.
