The German composer Johannes Brahms continued the Classical traditions of the Viennese masters, especially Beethoven.
Brahms studied with Robert Schumann, and after Schumann's death, remained a close friend of his wife, Clara.
Brahms is known for his four symphonies, his solo piano and chamber music, and his Lieder, which follow in the tradition of Schubert and Schumann.
Brahms's Third Symphony is Classical in its structures and proportions but highly Romantic in its tone.
