Key Points

The German composer Robert Schumann is known for his symphonies, piano music, chamber music, and Lieder; he also established an important literary magazine for music criticism.
Many of Schumann's Lieder were written for his fiancée, the pianist and composer Clara Wieck. These include A Poet's Love, a song cycle set to the poetry of Heinrich Heine.
