About Digital History (top of page)
There are two general groupings of media: annotations and features.
Digital History Annotations: Signaled by CD icons in the margins of the text, the Digital History Annotations include documents, audio recordings, interactive maps, and illustrations to expand important subjects discussed in the text. There are three to four Digital History Annotations per chapter.
Digital History Features: The CD-ROM highlights four in-depth features-two per volume-that combine digital video and audio commentary, music, still photographs, maps, and primary sources. The titles are "Life Without Liberty: Slave Culture on the Mount Vernon Plantation" [Chapter 6], "City of Spindles: The Textile Mills of Lowell" [Chapter 12], "Ellis Island and the Immigrant Experience" [Chapter 18], and "Hanford: The Cold War on the Columbia River" [Chapter 26].
Online Tutor Sections (top of page)
Each chapter offers the following sections:
- Overview: This section includes Study Objectives and a Chronology.
- Review: Chapter outline, quizzes

- Annotations: Each annotation provides a page number that refers to the textbook. The materials in the annotation enhance the discussion in the book.
- Features: From any location on the site, you can launch the four in-depth features.
- Resources: Here the multimedia elements for each chapter are categorized by type—Documents, Images, Maps, Audio, and Video.
Help Tips and Technical Support (top of page)
Audio and Video: Bandwidth Warning. These files, while compressed, may take some time to stream to your browser before they start playing. If you’re using a dial-up connection and a 56k modem, you’ll have to wait a while to access this multimedia. If you find this wait inconvenient, then use the site for review materials and use your CD-ROM for the Audio and Video materials.
Image Zoom Feature: Certain images and maps can be enlarged many times in order to view details more closely. Once zoomed, the images can be moved up, down, left, and right in order to view the specific sections.
