Jeffrey Owen Jones

American journalist, educator, and screenwriter/producer. Born in Manhattan and raised in Westport, Connecticut, Jones attended Williams College and went on to earn a master's degree from Middlebury College. As a young intern for Time magazine in 1965, Jones was sent to interview Bob Dylan, who soon immortalized Jones as the clueless reporter in "Ballad of a Thin Man": "Something is happening here / and you don't know what it is / do you, Mr. Jones?" After a period of writing and directing films in Spain, he returned to Williams to teach Spanish; he later taught film and animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Jones was awarded an Emmy Award in 1997 in recognition of his work as a producer of educational videos for CBS. He and journalist Peter Meyer co-wrote The Pledge: A History of the Pledge of Allegiance (2010). See also
