American writer and commentator. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Gay earned an M.A. at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and a Ph.D. in rhetoric and technical communications from Michigan Technological University, and is now a professor of English at Purdue University. Her short stories and essays have appeared in such publications as
Time, McSweeney's, and the Nation, as well as in a broad range of anthologies, from Best Sex Writing (2012) to Best American Mystery Stories (2014). Her books include Ayiti (2011), a short-story collection; An Untamed State (2014), a novel; and Bad Feminist (2014), a volume of essays that discusses the difficulties of being a woman in a world without perfect role models.
