American journalist and author. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1996 with a degree in English, Bissell served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uzbekistan; he then turned to the travel writing that made his name as a journalist. In addition to his widely anthologized short stories and feature articles, Bissell has published a number of books, including
Chasing the Sea: Lost among the Ghosts of Empire in Central Asia (2003), God Lives in St. Petersburg: and Other Stories (2005), and The Disaster Artist (2013), co-written with Greg Sestero. His 2010 book, Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter, stems from Bissell's deep involvement with video games; he has written scripts for six games, including Gears of War: Judgment (2013).
