Born in Buckhannon, West Virginia, Wiewiora grew up in Orlando, Florida, and earned his B.A. in English at the University of Central Florida, where he served as an editor at the
Florida Review. His essay "The Gift of Nothing" led to his acceptance in the M.F.A. at Iowa State University's Creative Writing and Environment Program, where he was managing editor of Flyway; the essay, first published in Stymie, has since been cited as "Notable" in Best American Sports Writing (2012). Wiewiora has held a variety of jobs, one of which, a pizza tosser, led to his essay "This Is Tossing," which was published in the literary magazine MAKE as well as the anthology Best Food Writing (2013).
