Lynda Barry

Lynda Barry ( b. 1956) is an award-winning cartoonist and author. Well known for her weekly comic strip Ernie Pook's Comeek, Barry is the author of nineteen books, the latest of which is Syllabus: Notes from an Accidental Professor (2014). As the title suggests, Barry teaches workshops around the country on comic writing. Her graphic novel What It Is (2008) received the comics industry's 2009 Eisner Award for Best Reality-Based Work. This work is part memoir; Barry often writes about her life, as she does in One! Hundred! Demons! (2002), from which this excerpt is taken.
