David Sedaris (b. 1956)
Sedaris made a name for himself as an elf in “Santaland,” the story about working with the Santas at Macy’s he told on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition in 1992. His hilarious autobiographical tales have been an NPR staple ever since, and his numerous book-length collections, from Barrel Fever (1994) to When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008), have all been best sellers. In 2001 Sedaris won the Thurber Prize for American Humor and was named “Humorist of the Year” by Time magazine. His latest collection is Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk (2010).
