Dave Barry (b. 1947)

Author of more than thirty books of humor. A graduate of Haverford College, Barry taught writing for a consulting firm before joining the Miami Herald as a humor columnist in 1983. (When you write a business letter, Barry advised his students, do not say things like, “Enclosed, please find the enclosed enclosures.”) Barry’s columns—collected in such volumes as Dave Barry Is Not Making This Up (1995) and Dave Barry: Boogers Are My Beat (2003)—earned him a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1988 and appeared weekly until 2005. His latest book, I’ll Mature When I’m Dead (2010), covers various aspects of adulthood—surprising many people, including his publisher, who claims that Barry “struggled hard against growing up his entire life.”
