Lynda Barry, from Come Over Come Over

1. In "Knowing Things," why is Maybonne sorry after she tells her sister Marlys that all her plants will die and then they do? What might Barry be saying here about "knowing"?

2. In "The Surprise," after Maybonne hears a bird singing in the middle of the night, she says, "If right now was a movie where a girl was writing you this letter about these questions, I guess that would mean something." Why does Maybonne say that? How does this lead Maybonne to her conclusion that God is small? What does she mean by small? Why is this a surprise for Maybonne?
