JAMES L. THORSON is Professor of English at the University of New Mexico. He has also taught at Oxford University, the University Kiril I Metodij in the former Yugoslavia, the University of Nebraska, and Cornell University, from which he received his Ph.D. He is the author of articles on British and American literature and has been the recipient of fellowships from Jesus College, Oxford, and the Fulbright Commission as well as grants from the University of New Mexico.
