College Editorial Assistant

We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to work in our College Department. The position involves supporting an editor of college science textbooks including Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Responsibilities include management of manuscripts in all stages of production, coordinating text and illustrations programs, corresponding with authors, college faculty, marketing, and sales staff. Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills required. Ability to work under deadline, manage multiple detail-oriented projects, and handle administrative responsibilities a must. A background and passion for science and science education strongly preferred.

Emedia Editor, Sciences

Emedia Editors at Norton are responsible for managing the content development and production tracking of electronic media products that support the college textbooks in their disciplines. These products include, but are not limited to, student websites, online homework systems, PowerPoint lectures, and animations. Emedia editors are responsible for creating electronic media profiles, signing and managing authors for their products, and maintaining budgets. The goals of emedia editors at Norton are to produce—on budget and on time—innovative, pedagogically-useful electronic media for students and instructors.

Emedia editors are also responsible for 1) visiting college campuses and attending academic meetings with the goals of signing authors, learning about the markets in which they work, and helping the sales and marketing team promote their textbook packages; 2) working with the sales and marketing teams on sales support materials like flyers and online demos; 3) presenting emedia products at Norton College Department sales conferences; 4) providing as-needed support for sales reps and instructors.

The Sciences Emedia Editor will be responsible for developing electronic media products for college courses in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geology.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in college publishing.
  • Demonstrated success developing electronic media products for the college textbook market strongly preferred.
  • BA/BS degree (or higher) in chemistry, physics or biology is strongly preferred.
  • Success in sales and marketing a plus.
  • Technical knowledge a plus.
  • Knowledge of teaching pedagogy a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving skills, and a can-do attitude.
  • Location: New York, NY preferred but not required.

The Inside Sales Representative position involves the active promotion of Norton educational materials to appropriate professors and instructors at a variety of campuses across the US and Canada. While many representatives desire to stay in this position long-term, opportunities exist for further growth in marketing, editorial, or management within Norton college department. This position works from a home office environment.

Individuals wishing to apply for this position should think of themselves as self-motivated, creative and tenacious. Candidates must be enthusiastic, independent, and persuasive. Successful representatives love books and enjoy reading and learning. Candidates should have a wide range of interests and love to engage in conversations about literature, politics, science, history, and all disciplines in the liberal arts. Strong computer skills and an understanding of e-media products are a must.

Employees in this position will develop presentation, public speaking, problem solving, and event-planning skills. While many representatives desire to stay in this position long-term, opportunities exist for further growth in marketing, editorial, or management within Norton college department.
